Yoga on Yamhill is super excited (as am I!) to announce a partnering of common purpose with Upward Yoga! Upward Yoga's mission sync's so well with our idea of fostering a community of students and teachers who support each other in the spirit of "Yoga for All."
We decided to do a brief interview with Kristi Owens, the founder of Upward Yoga, so here we go!
Q: What is Upward Yoga?
A: Upward Yoga is a passionate community of yoga teachers—from new instructors to experienced mentors—dedicated to creating an inspiring and supportive space for all. Our donation-based classes are designed to welcome practitioners at every level with warmth and openness. More than just a practice, we offer a unique space where students and teachers come together to grow, learn, and build lasting connections. Every class invites you to explore your practice with curiosity and joy while becoming part of a vibrant, uplifting community.
Q: What made you think of doing this?
A: I started Upward Yoga after noticing a gap between finishing Yoga Teacher Training and finding opportunities to teach. Many newly certified teachers were eager to share their gifts but lacked the chance to gain real experience. I wanted to create a space where both new and experienced teachers could grow their skills, build confidence, and connect with others. Upward Yoga was born from this desire to empower teachers, nurture their growth, and cultivate a vibrant, supportive community.
Q: Tell us something about the typical teachers and students who come to Upward Yoga...
A: While our students come from diverse backgrounds and experience levels, both teachers and students embrace the opportunity to explore fresh approaches on the mat to create a dynamic, supportive environment where growth and connection thrive.
Q: What else would you like the tell the Yoga on Yamhill community about Upward Yoga?
A: At Upward Yoga, we believe that yoga is more than just a physical practice—it's a way to build connections, explore new possibilities, and grow alongside a community of like-minded individuals. Whether you’re new to yoga or have been practicing for years, our classes offer a space where you can challenge yourself, deepen your practice, and have fun along the way. Our teachers are dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive environment where you can explore yoga in your own way while being supported by a community that encourages both personal growth and collective connection. We invite you to come experience how Upward Yoga can inspire you to grow on the mat and beyond.
Thanks, Kristi!
Upward Yoga will be offering a variety of classes on alternating Sunday's at 6:30 - 7:30pm. About a week before class, we will try to update the web site to tell you what the class will be and who will be teaching.
